Pattu Sarees - An evergreen fabric

Pattu sarees are something that all women love. The shades, the colors, and the sheen it carries is like none other. It is almost like a walking shining doll when someone drapes it. Interestingly pattu is not just loved by women alone. Men too love the material to have their kurtas and dhotis stitched out of it. Pattu sarees have been there for a very long time. They can be called threads of tradition for the art and the style of weaving pattu has been carried forward to date by many generations.

It is not long ago that the entire pattu saree demand was fulfilled by just hand weaving. While there are still communities and artisans who actively indulge in only hand weaving of pattu sarees, there are machine-operated looms too. But remember, original pattu sarees are always only handwoven.

What makes pattu sarees very unique is the natural shine it carries. Traditional pattu weaving saw its way to Kanchipuram around 400 years ago and since then this has been everyone’s favorite. The history of pattu sarees is amazing and the way how kings and queens embraced this gorgeous material is all the more the beautiful part. It is said that back then when the river Palar flowed in its purest form the silk yarns were washed in it which gave it the natural sheen. The popularity of pattu sarees has never gone out of fashion even though women are actively exploring the western style. In the end, it is tradition and culture that hold everyone. Pattu sarees can never go out of trend due to their versatility and elegance it carries.
